Well done to the team (made up two pupils from S3 and two from S4) from Trinity Academy who came third out of 25 Edinburgh schools in the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries maths competition at Meadowbank yesterday.

The students who travelled to South Africa in the summer for the hockey and rugby tour worked tirelessly to fundraise and raise money for a small rural school called Farmerfield located in the Eastern Cape. Before they departed for the tour, they sent £2,500 which helped install electricity into the school for the first time since it was established. Every pupil also packed a TA bag full of books and goodies to take across to the school to give to each of their pupils as a gift when they visited.
That visit proved to be one of the most rewarding experiences of the trip.
Congratulations to our team who took part in this year’s Pedal for Scotland event, cycling 46 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh to raise funds for the school. Thanks to their efforts and the fantastic generosity of our donors we raised over £2000 for the school.

Congratulations to Esther Watson in S2 for recent sporting achievements with her club Edinburgh Athletics Club.
At the Scottish National Age Group Championships Esther won a silver medal in the long jump with a PB of 4:45m and also bronze as a member of the 4x100m relay team.
At the Young Athletes League in Bedford she won a bronze in the high jump with a PB of 1.40m, a silver in the 75m sprint with a PB of 10:58s and a silver in the long jump contributing many points to her team. Edinburgh Athletics Club finished in second place overall, only 3.5 points behind the winners Southampton.
Our first Parent Council meeting of 2016/2017 is just one week away — September 6 at 7:00pm.
We have a great group of committed parents who each give a few hours every term to help in a variety of ways. Some attend meetings, some help with fundraising, some help run events, and some help with campaigns or communications.
What could you do? What time could you give? Every little bit helps, and all talents are welcome!
We would particularly welcome new members from those who have just started in S1 this year but everyone is welcome and there is no pressure to speak. Please come along next Tuesday and learn more about the parent council and the life of the school.
Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Bangholm Funday on Saturday. It was a great day despite the weather.
A total of £700 was made on the day which is being split between the Accies rugby club and Parent Council funds.
The Trinity Accies Teddy who needed a name has been called Percy Prop.
The teddy’s birthdays were – Craig Hall (18 November) and Percy Prop (23rd March) and the Teddies were won by Archie Wood and Jennifer Gawley.
The S1 Gardening Group held a ‘Harvest Festival’ presentation for parents and staff at the end of last term. The presentations from the individual students were a highlight, as each demonstrated just how much they had learned of the science of horticulture during the year. Thos eattending also had a chance to take hom feed grown at the allotment and harvested on the night!

So, the 2015/2016 school year is over! And what a busy and interesting year it has been for the school and Parent Council.
We have enjoyed a successful year working with Bryan Paterson and his dedicated team of teachers and staff. Our members have been involved in the interview processes for the Rector, the appointments of 3 new Deputy Head Teachers, and Curriculum Leaders for Mathematics and for Expressive Arts and PE. We have supported the school, raising thousands of pounds by running fundraising events and have improved electronic communications with parents as well as sending out the weekly bulletins and played our part in the local community, including Trinity Community Council and Friends of Victoria Park. Watch this space for more news of a joint fun event in August with Trinity Academicals RFC!
The school itself is clearly on an upwards path, with a positive vibe, building on its strengths and tackling those areas where there is still room for improvement and really starting to go places. We are looking forward to welcoming 160 new S1s and their families to the school in August – a 33% increase on the intake last year. None of this would have been possible without everyone pulling together to achieve it.
Our first meeting in the 2016/2017 school year is 6 September. Please hold the date and thinking about coming along to take part or simply learn more.
On behalf of the Parent Council, I would like to thank all parents, carers, pupils, teachers and staff, Council staff, Councillors and MSPs for their support in the last year. We hope you all have great summer holidays and return refreshed and ready for an exciting new year. Finally, we would like to wish all those pupils and teachers who left Trinity Academy this year the very best of luck in their future careers and destinations.
Parents and guests at the gardening group’s harvest festival enjoyed a fantastic presentation from the students and the University of Edinburgh’s Geosciences Outreach programme. This was followed with a tour of the allotment and a chance to take away some samples of really locally grown salad leaves and herbs.
