Making Maths Count Initiative

Maths!

Making Maths Count” is a Scottish Government national initiative that has two broad aims:

  1. To encourage greater enthusiasm for maths amongst children and young people, their parents, carers and the wider public
  2. To provide support for teachers and help raise attainment in Mathematics National Qualifications.

To encourage engagement from the wider general public an online questionnaire has been developed to look at how people feel about maths, how they use maths and how confident they are with their maths skills.

Health and Resilience

Life often throws challenges our way. It could be the death of a close family member or friend, a serious illness, the loss of a job or the breakdown of a relationship. ‘Resilience’ means our ability to cope with these events.

As parents and carers, you play a vital role in helping to prepare your children for the difficult times that life brings.

Welcome to 2016

New year 2016

Happy new year and welcome to 2016, a new year and school term. To start the year we thought it might be useul to provide a one-stop summary of all the ways to stay in touch with what’s happening at the school and Parent Council. Feel free to pick those that suit you best.

School

The school has a website and it is updated regularly and the Rector’s blog is usually updated once each week. The school also provides a number of Twitter feeds:

Some of the Twitter feeds are private which means you need approval (and a Twitter account) to follow them.

Parent Council

Most of our communication is posted to this website but we also update our Twitter feed and Facebook group regularly. Please feel free to follow any of those accounts and we’d love to hear your feedback too.

Trinity Academicals Rugby club

Rugby club badgeHere’s some information about Trinity Academicals Rugby club written by David Barnes, a former pupil of the school.

TRINITY ACADEMICALS RFC has had an encouraging start to the 2015-2016 season, having won two of their first three matches, and with player numbers up on recent years, the club has high hopes of winning promotion into BT East League Division One at the end of the campaign.

The current 1st XV squad contains a strong contingent of proud Trinity Academy alumni, who either view the club as the final destination in their rugby career, or as an excellent stepping stone to one of the several senior clubs in the area with whom we have forged strong working relationships.

We are very keen to further strengthen our links with the school, which we recognise as playing a very important role in developing the next generation of rugby players in north Edinburgh, and welcome any suggestions and recommendations which may help us attract new supporters.

Please email us with any queries you may have.

We pride ourselves on being an open, inclusive and family orientated club which caters to all ages. To that end, we promise a warm welcome to both new members and infrequent guests at our Bangholm base. If you manage to make it along on match day then please introduce yourself to our president, Ross Findlay who is sure to buy you a beer (or a coffee from our newly installed commercial coffee machine). The cosy member’s bar at Bangholm is open from an hour before kick-off, and pies are available at half-time.

Training is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (starting at 7pm), while our fixture schedule can be found on the Scottish Rugby Website.
